Undiscovered Particle
The small ones, like:
“Please don’t let the grease that I spilled
onto the crotch of my pants at lunch,
set into the fabric and create a dark spot
there for all time.”
The large ones with a special gravity of their own:
“Make the pain stop.”
“I will do anything, if you bring back my love.”
Each unanswered prayer,
a particle sent out into the ether,
not yet discovered by physicists,
gathering and expanding.
The force and weight of them on our lives,
the random chance of an answered prayer,
a miracle,
keeping us believing, if only subconsciously,
maybe this time my plea will be answered.
